Tonight on MNF and other TidBits

Tonight the Denver Broncos travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers on Monday Night Football, and yes that commercial is completely irrelevant. The Broncos are under achieving this year and the Chargers are starting to gain a little momentum. With Rivers and Orton leading the league in passing yards, there should be more bombs than operation shock and awe tonight.

In other NFL news Brad Childress was finally fired. The Vikings players and fans have been asking for his head for weeks and after last nights 31-3 home loss Childress got the axe. Hopefully the new regime will bench Favre. It’s time for the Vikings to move on before they waste any more of the talented players on that teams careers.

Another side story from this week in the NFL is the Titans offensive production since the signing of Randy Moss has dropped from over 25 points per game to twelve points per game. Moss did not have a catch yet again this week, and his lack of effort on a short route cost the team an interception. All I can say about the Patriots trade is “straight cash homey”.

Regular Season Championship

Last night the Pats and Colts played what has been the most meaningful game of the regular season for the past ten years. The Patriots, Colts and Steelers have dominated the AFC for the past decade and the winner of the Pats, Colts game has generally had playoff implications. That being said, they are who we thought they were. I think it’s been kind of funny listening to all the sports talk people all week compare Brady and Manning and say this and that about how either Manning or Brady has done more with less and is the better quarterback, but in the end Everyone points to Brady’s post season record. With all that said, yesterday’s game was what everyone expected.

Merriweather’s interception on the first drive set the tone for the Pats last night and helped both sides of the ball to really get going in the first half. Momentum has been huge for the Pats the season and big plays from any unit to start the game has generally led the offense to roll and the D to play better.

The Patriots held the Colts to just over 70 yards on the ground. The Colts are still missing Joseph Addai, but it’s always nice to see the Pats D-line dominate like that. Vince Wilfork had that one tackle in the second quarter where he shed his block like a rag doll and brought down Brown 2 yards in the backfield.

The pass rush looked pretty good yesterday. The Pats may have gotten to Rothlisberger 5 times last week, but that was against 2 backup linemen. The pressure the Pats got on Manning while rushing just 3 or 4 is what allowed them to pick him off three times.

Brady and the offense looked great yesterday. With the exception of a few late drives, when they really needed them, the offense looked great yesterday. Whenever Brady gets Branch involved it seems that the Pats are more likely to put up long drives and the Law Firm and Frodo looked good on the ground. Actually Woodhead’s scamper to the end zone was the longest TD run of the year by a Patriot and was just a testament to his will.

Im sure none of you were in the same predicament I was in at the beginning of the game yesterday. I was at a bar (apparently filled with rednecks) and they were showing the final race of the NASCAR sprint series on the main TV.  When Kyle Bush’s M&M car burst in to flames, I swear I heard someone say ‘it’s okay Kyle, they melt in your mouth, not in your car’

Anyways, last night was a heart stopper at the end. When Simms and Jim Nantz started talking about how this is the same score they led by last year and then the Colts started catching up I was literally yelling at the TV (I was home by then). But instead of going for it on what would have been a ridiculous 4th and 6, the Pats punted and we all know what happened from there…

New Nike Uniforms?

I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t been up on my blogging game lately, but what can I say? If I were getting paid I’d lay waste to the internet, but instead you got flashes of half assed brilliance. Anyways I know barstool already posted this, but I wanted to chime in and get your responses. Apparently these are Patriots uniforms scheduled for 2012, I actually kind of think they suck. I like getting back to the red in the scheme, since I’m a fan of the throwbacks. But I think they’re too much for everyday use, the stars under the armpits in particular are just over the top.  They actually kind of look like AFC pro bowl jerseys.

Green Hornet

Best super hero movie of the year, bar none. Seth Rogen pretty much kills everything he does, so this should be great.

NBA News and Jams

BOOMSHAKALAKA: The Celtics tore the Wizards apart last night 114-83, behind Paul Pierces 23 point effort. Rondo chipped in with another 13 assists and the Big Shamrock put up thirteen as well. In his re-debut as a Celtic Delonte West came off the bench with 12 points, 5 assists and 5 boards as well. The addition of Delonte to the Celtics bench is frightening for other teams in the conference who already can’t handle the Celtics firepower.

The Heat beat the Suns 123-96  behind Chris Bosh’s 35 points. That’s the type of game the Heat need to win, a couple of big runs, and one big number guy. Whereas the Celtics go out there, put up a bazillion assists, and everybody on the team gets over ten points. Good luck to Chris Bosh trying to put numbers like that up against KG, with Perk lurking around the base line

Salute for Four Loko

Prohibition strikes again! But in all seriousness who didn’t see this coming? I was in Town like three weeks ago and the woman in there was telling me how people were stalking up on this stuff like the nuclear holocaust was about to happen. The lesson for both us and them here is this: if we really like something its better kept to us (for instance facebook), and the lesson for them is, if you don’t want us to have something stop broadcasting it twenty four seven from every available media outlet. That company got more and better free marketing than many would pay millions for. I mean they brought new meaning to integrated marketing communications: “drink this shit, you will get f*cked up”. Anyways it would be a fitting closing for Four Loko to have a 21 gun salute…  or a 21 oz salute

I wanna give a shout out to all the haters. Some hate, some appreciate

Tron

I have to admit this actually looks alright. It’s just such a weird premise, like it was a cool idea in the 80’s but the technology just wasn’t there. I can’t imagine watching a whole movie of this…

but Peter Griffin, thats a whole different story

He’s Baaaack

I think the Eagles just messed up everyone’s fantasy football weekend, lucky for me I had like a 70 point lead coming into tonight… and I’m still on the verge of panic. The NFL record for points in a game was set in 1940, its 73.

Tonight on MNF

Ya that had nothing at all to do with Monday or Football, but I was cruisin ESPN and I saw Kevin and Jerry’s ugly mugs in an ad for the new Need for Speed game and I had to throw it in here somehow. Tonight we get the rematch between the Skins and Eagles. While it shouldn’t be a walk in the park for Vick and company I expect their high powered offense will have no trouble exploiting the Redskins. LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin are the real deal, bringing speed and elusiveness while the new Michael Vick is a double edged sword in and outside of the pocket.

Celtics #1 in Power Rankings

The Celtics are at #1 in this weeks power rankings on ESPN.com. After the Lakers lost two games this weekend (in which they gave up a combined 239 points in regulation) the Celtics are back to their rightful #1 ranking. It seems every time I post about the Celtics I feature Rondo but his 15 plus assists in 7 out of 10 games this year merits more attention than I can give him. Rondo has been fun to watch ever since the start of the big 3 era, and now that he’s maturing he’s a nightmare for opposing teams.
